With plants such as roses and wisteria, their root systems tend to be very deep, so they can access the deeper levels of moisture within the soil and at present aren’t affected by the short-term dry spell in the upper parts of our garden soils. High levels of moisture within our soils and a process of vernalization (where flowering can be improved through exposure to cold temperatures) has led to some show-stopping results in our gardens and parks. The secret to this success also stems from the very wet winter, alongside prolonged temperatures of well below minus for consecutive days. Fairly consistent temperatures and tame spells of cold weather have led to our delicate flowers not being compromised at all.

Early summer has arrived with a bang, and despite recent dry weather, plants such as roses, wisteria and flowering trees like hawthorn are having the most wonderful and glorious flowering season.
