The Band of Hawks is hired as the King’s guard to defend the Midland Kingdom in a century-long war filled with battles against a neighbouring Empire. Guts soon become Griffith’s prime fighter. Years later, Guts’ reputation draws the attention of Griffith, the leader of another mercenary group of heinous outlaws called The Band of Hawks.
After killing his adoptive father and guide in self-defence, he is forced to run away. He is a skilled swordsman brought up and trained by mercenaries from a very tender age. The story of Berserk is about Guts, a boy born from the body of his hanged mother. The anime is pretty loyal to the manga and sticks closely to the plot. The three movies are based upon an earlier version of Beserk, which is the Berserk manga.
